Kayaking To Pulau Ubin

The greatest thing about living in Singapore is there is so many places to explore.
On Saturday, we were invited to go Kayaking by friend and fellow blogger, Leone. We both love kayaking, when we were travelling Australia in our van we had two Zambeki inflatable kayaks (see picture)

We hired the kayaks from a place called WaterCross Adventure Paddlers, check them out here, it is attached to the Beach Culture Restaurant at Pasir Ris Park (closest to Car Park E) for $14 per hour for double kayaks. We had an experienced kayaker among our group which was good because he gave us a bit of a brief before heading out on the great big ocean. Basically we were to wait for any boats to pass and cross the ocean in a group and if there was an emergency he gave us the number to call (although only 2 of us had our phones :-s ) So our aim was to make it to Pulau Ubin, an island off the  North East Coast of Singapore. It was definitely hard yakka, probably because I haven't done any arm exercises in a while/ever. I was glad when we made it to the island for a break and a bit of a wander. Pulau Ubin is a popular island for day trips as you can hire bikes and cycle around. This is something we have put on the list of things to do in Singapore, but as we still had to kayak all the way back I was not too keen on cycling. On the way back we took it easy hugging the shore of Pulau Ubin and decided to go around a small island called Pulau Ketam. By the time we were heading back across the ocean my arms and shoulders were killing, but I powered through even when it looked like Pasir Ris Park wasn't getting any closer no matter how hard I paddled! We were exhausted and a little sunburnt by the time we made it back but in high spirits that we had accomplished approximately 12km of kayaking. Check out where we went..

This took 3 hours with a 30 min stop at Pulau Ubin
Sean and I (I did most of the paddling, I swear :-P)

The team!
On the ocean!

Overall it was a great morning out and after wards we had worked up enough of an appetite for a Chinese lunch. Oh and Pasir Ris Park itself is definitely worth a visit as it is so quiet and a nice break away from the city.

  1. Oh, we went to Pulau Ubin too. Just cycling around the island for the whole day last Sunday. It's a must try.

Glad you are enjoying Singapore :-)
