The things I'll miss #3

Shrek...

Ok, I know what you're are thinking, why would I miss a computer animated character? Well, I am actually talking about my dog, Shrek (we didn't name him). I think I will miss him the most out of anything else.

We were given Shrek when he was about 1 year old (we think, nobody knows how old he is)from one of our friends who had moved into a smaller house and didn't have a big enough garden for him. We have grown to love him so much and its going to be the hardest part about leaving Australia. Not only because I'll miss him so much but I know he will miss us a lot also. Every morning he waits outside my door for me to wake up and follows me to the bathroom just to say 'Good morning, can I have some pats?' (yes i do have conversations with him :-)). If we go away for a weekend, my parents tell me he just waits out the front as if he is waiting for us to come home. I wonder how long he will wait when we have left... :-(

Unfortunately, people judge him before knowing him because he is a Rottweiler. But when you get to know him he is the most gentle softy and just a bit slobbery! Alot of Rottweilers and other breeds are discriminated against just because they are classed as a dangerous breed. I believe that all dogs are good dogs and its only some owners that make them bad. Any bad dog has either been trained that way, mistreated or undisciplined. In fact Shrek runs away when little dogs chase him!

I'll miss patting him, especially just grabbing his cheeks and pulling his ears (he actually really likes this) and I'm sure he is going to miss our pats. I'll miss walking him and how excited he gets about walking and how every time we go for a walk he will find a stick and carry it all the way home so he can chew it up later. I'll miss how he howls at police sirens. I'll miss him reminding me it is his dinner time and he'll keep annoying me until he is fed ( I think he has a watch hidden in his bed). I won't miss him slobering but I'll miss it when he slobers and then shakes his head and the slober ends up all over his face.

Sleepy Shrek

He looks a bit scared here

"What you looking at?"

I could probably go on all night posting photos of him, but I have so many it will take too long!

I'll miss you Shrek!! xoxo

  1. I miss my cats more than anyone I'll be honest. That is always who I'm most excited to be going home to see so I know exactly how you are feeling. It is definitely all the harder as you can't explain to them where you are going etc.

  2. with hindsight .... and even before losing Pokey ... we often said we did them a disservice by bringing them here.

They no longer had the freedom to run around, chase lizards, find a stick and roll in the grass.

But we did bring them and we did the best we could for them. But we know they would have been happier had they been left in Australia.

You are doing the right thing and he will be there each time you return for a vacation and waiting for his walks and pats!

  3. I know Laura, it is so hard that we can't explain to them that we are leaving.
Leone, you are right, he would be much much happier here than in a city but like I said I wish he could understand that!
